Oh, dreaded alcohol. They warned you, “getting drunk is stealing happiness from tomorrow.” Well, you’re young (or you think you are) and you like to live your life, so it’s completely understandable. If you’ve managed to get a hangover (obviously you didn’t use the Vape Shot to prevent it) don’t worry, with our FOUR proven ways to cure a hangover, you’ll be back to your routine in no time. Let’s start off with the first:
Drink Plenty of Water. Whether you vaporize or drink alcohol, one way your body works to remove alcohol is by expelling it via urination. Thus, re-hydrating by drinking plenty of water helps to re-balance your body back to its original state. However, in addition to leaving you dehydrated, alcohol also pulls important electrolytes from your body that are needed to function normally and affect your mood. Therefore, you should aim to drink spring water (not distilled!) that contains naturally occurring electrolytes. You can also choose drinks targeted specifically to re-hydrate you such as Mineral Water or Gatorade. In addition to re-hydrating you, these drinks also contain calculated electrolyte proportions to effectively re-nourish your body and get you back to 100%.
Without questions, hangovers and headaches come hand in hand. Specifically, headaches caused from being hungover are normally due to the vasodilation (expansion) of blood vessels surrounding the brain. Luckily, coffee’s main active ingredient, caffeine, actually reverses this process – it vasoconstricts (narrows) blood vessels. Just think of your brain surrounded by blood vessels. When these blood vessels expand, it causes pressure on your brain. So, the best way to remedy this is to de-pressurize the blood vessels. Thus, coffee and caffeine play a vital role in alleviating hangovers – by decreasing the pressure caused from the blood vessels. Furthermore, the “pick-me-up” you get from drinking coffee will also boost your serotonin levels – the neurotransmitter/chemical in your brain that makes you feel good. We recommend our favorite brew: Tanzanian Peaberry.
Wake up a little early and take ibuprofen such as Advil or Motrin one hour before you need to be a functional human being. Then go back to sleep and when you wake up to start your day, the ibuprofen should already be alleviating your symptoms. Magic! This trick is perfect when you go out during the week and have work or school the next day. Remember, Advil is not the same as Tylenol. Tylenol’s active ingredient is Acetaminophen and can be hazardous to your health when taken with alcohol. Ibuprofen is a Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) and relieves pain throughout your body.
Although you probably may not feel like working up a sweat, it’s been proven that exercising releases endorphins – the neurotransmitters in the brain that make you feel good and regulate your mood. In addition, exercising increases your energy levels while simultaneously flushing out the toxins that cause your hangover (from alcohol). When you workout, your heart-rate, breathing, and metabolism increase to keep your body working. These increased functions also cause your body to expel waste products at a faster rate – thus aiding in the removal of the hangover causing substances in your body.
